Action/Reaction

One of the things I love the most about blogging is that there are both actions and reactions in content. Action: making, creating, styling. Reaction: commentary, reviewing, dissecting. It satisfies both the heady space fashion can sometimes occupy, as well as occupying our two little hands. This week we have a great combination of things you can do and things to think about, and heck a couple of things you can put on your summer wishlist.

Jumpsuit Obsession.

I've recently fell in love with jumpsuits. I've got my eye on a couple jumpsuits and can't wait to add them to my wardrobe for the summer. I think the obsession came when I was in Miami for Memorial Day weekend with my sorority sisters and went into Zara and saw this denim jumper:

Zara - $79.90. No longer on website, but similar.
Here's some jumpsuits that are great for the summer:

7 Jumpsuits To Jump For!

The great thing about jumpsuits is that they're versatile in how you can wear them. They can be worn out shopping; sexed up for date night or out with the girls; paired with a blazer for work; or even great for an outdoor wedding or concert.

Small Business Spotlight: Chamblii on Etsy.

Temia Chambliss is a native of Grand Rapids, MI, who's never had a trouble with expressing herself. Especially style-wise, she's not afraid to wear what she wants, which is is exactly how she designs her pieces. And I know all of this because she's my linesister. (:

In March 2013, Temia brought her designs online by opening up her own Etsy shop, Chamblii. Chamblii features handmade knits by her, by which she calls them NinjaNecks.

Buy Any Means Necessary: What was your inspiration for the business and how did it get started?
Temia Chambliss: I am inspired by many things. Life is my greatest inspiration, from the people I meet and the places I've been, to the things I've seen and where I desire to go in the future. The birth of Chamblii was this place that I go to free myself creatively called Heartside Ministry. Heartside is a inner city ministry where community members are are allowed to shed of themselves creatively through art, pottery, wood shop, etc.

BAMN: How long have you been knitting for?
TC: This March, marked a year that I have been knitting. My ultimate goal is to have my own Chamblii boutique where I can showcase both my loves; knitting and sewing.

BAMN: What's behind the name, Chamblii?
TC: Chamblii is a derivative of my last name. Every Chamblii item is a direct reflection of me, my ideas, my hopes, my dreams, my visions and my soul; I wanted the name to represent this idea.

BAMN: How do you come up with the designs for your pieces? Do you sketch or just freestyle?
TC: I'm really big on creating one of a kind and unique pieces, for most of my designing I do in my sleep.  I usually have a dream about a simple silhouette and from there I sketch it out on paper just to help me remember it or just to give me a template of where I want to go with the NinjaNeck. But the final designing is a process.  While I am knitting I make alterations and enhancements to the simple silhouette I began with.

Make sure you head over to Chamblii to check out more 'NinjaNecks' and make a purchase! Great for the Fall!

lift: DETROIT Gala - What To Wear.

For those guys attending lift: DETROIT gala this Saturday, here's a little style inspiration:

What To Wear To A Gala: Menswear Edition

What To Wear To A Gala: Menswear Edition by vintagefiasco on Polyvore

1. Nas in Brioni -- This was my favorite look for men at the 2013 Grammys. I love the subtleness of the gold blazer matched with the black pants; it's not too overpowering. The cuban link added a flair of hip hop and was the perfect addition to this outfit. Nas is proof you don't always have to match. A color blazer can make you show out in a room full of people. Don't be afraid!

2. Denzel Washington in Calvin Klein -- Simple doesn't have to mean the traditional black suit or tux. It can even be in subtle colors such as gray and blue. Bow ties seem to be the trend of this season amongst men. However, you can still go the traditional regular tie way, but switch up the knot. Below is one knot that you're sure to get compliments from:

3. Justin Timberlake in Tom Ford -- Amongst all the attendees in black tuxedos during the Grammys, this one was a hit to me. He really took on the black and white trend by opting for a black and white shoes, it went as far as his pocket square (seen more visibly here). This is proof you can't go wrong going the traditional route.

lift: DETROIT Gala - The 411.

I remember sitting in a car years ago with a friend discussing how I wanted to change the city of Detroit and the many ways they could improve and revitalize the city. I remember taking it as far as looking up master programs for Urban Planning. So when I got knowledge of an event entitled, lift: DETROIT gala, I knew I just had to be apart of it. So I reached out and joined their PR team as a volunteer and I've enjoyed every bit of it so far.

Therefore, every day of this week I will be posting about lift: DETROIT gala, which is taking place in Detroit, this Saturday, May 18 at the Detroit Historical Museum.

lift: DETROIT gala is an annual black tie gala presented by The EYS Group, Cascading Krystals & Valiant PR that highlights professional companionship, social responsibility and community outreach as important strategies for the revitalization of Detroit.
